You’ve GOT to be Kidding Me (King of the Nerds Reaction)

I think every episode of King of the Nerds has had one person who pisses me off in some way. At first, it was Virgil. Then it was Danielle. Then Alana. Then Virgil some more. And now it’s Genevieve.

Because she sent Moo home.

Now, I’m aware that’s kind of a non-reason. But I loved Moo- and I wish she’d have won the entire competition. I think she deserved to stay more than anything, and it also would have given the final competition more variety. Because everyone they’ve got left now is falls under the heading of “pop-culture nerd.”

I don’t like that- I don’t think it makes for good television. They might prove me wrong, and I’m not going to stop watching the show or anything- but now they have no representatives of arguably what is most stereotypically nerdy- math and science. That’s not good- it alienates an entire sub-genre of people who identify as nerds.

But the other reason I really really really REALLY don’t want Genevieve to win… she accused Celeste of throwing her under the bus.

When she’d tried to do the exact same thing to her.

That, honey, makes you the worst kind of hypocrite. And I can’t stand hypocrites. I have zero tolerance for them.

So if Genevieve becomes King… I may accidentally break the TV. Just sayin’.

This episode was pretty cool overall, but I wish it’d happened earlier, where we could see more nerds working it out- especially the ones who are very suited to math and science. I understand that’s hard to do with teams, but I’m confident there’s a way to at least to the same theme earlier on and break up the pop culture-themed stuff. Come on, producers. Make it happen.

But in terms of how much I actually enjoyed this episode… it’s kind of meh. It’s not terrible, but I can’t help but feel like the show’s losing stamina. I know it’s already been renewed for a second season- which is awesome, don’t get me wrong- but I can’t help but feel that, if they don’t fix this problem, that might be as far as it gets. And I don’t want that. Maybe they’re just saving all the big shocking awesome moments for the finale. I don’t know.

I’m looking forward to the finale. I know who I’m rooting for. And I’m also curious to know if they’ll bring everyone back for the crowning- I hope so.

Love,

Bust A Move! (King of the Nerds Reaction)

Oh, right, I’m supposed to make a post about King of the Nerds. Sorry, I was busy singing those two awesome songs in my room!

Alright, before I get into this week’s Nerd War, let’s look at last week’s: High IQ’s. (Which I didn’t post about because I was busy writing two papers and a lab research proposal. Sue me.) Yeah, I was disappointed Joshua lost… but that being said, what a way to go! Freakin’ sweet. Hello, there was a sumo wrestler involved! Ivan kinda creeped me out in this episode with his whole “Look into my eyes” thing, but hey- overall, he’s still one of my favorites.

But let’slook at the most recent episode- Nerdy Dancing- because I have a couple problems with it. First and foremost, while it’s awesome to have a dancing episode, when did that become a “nerd” thing? It was awesome, but I’d have rather seen something a little nerdier by definition. I just feel like there could’ve been a better option.

And the second thing? Overall, I feel like the competition has lost some sparkle as the episodes have gone on. I mean, episode one played off every nerd’s biggest fear, then turned the tables. HUGE kick to the nuts for every contestant AND the audience, because any nerd watching can relate. Episode two: freakin’ cosplay AND George Takei, Yaya Han, and Adam Busch. (Although the Nerd Off was ridiculously rigged.) Episode three: not too impressive, but still pretty cool- but was way cut to showcase the Orange Team’s drama. Episode four: Jay and Silent Bob, plus a pretty intense debate, BUT more drama because why not? I don’t know if this is just how reality competition shows work, but I would’ve liked to see KotN break the mold if it is. Ah, well, there’s always next season.

Anyway, let’s get to the meat of the issue- what’d I think of this episode?

Okay, first of all, can we just celebrate for a moment? Because WOOHOO, VIRGIL’S OUT!!!!!!!!!! Man, I have hated that guy since Day One, and I am so glad he’s not the King. Personally, I think he should’ve gone out sooner, but I understand why his team wanted him until now. Kind of. I think I still would’ve voted him out. Who knows, maybe he’s less of a douche off-camera. And I do admit that his send-off speech was probably the best yet- shows how much nerds mean to each other. There’s a real sense of community between all of us. Even if you try to avoid it, it’ll get you eventually. It actually made me consider tearing up a little bit.

The best part of the episode was the two songs, both of which I want to buy (are they on iTunes? Someone tell me. If not, producers, hello, what’s the matter with you?)

“Talk Nerdy to Me” was extremely catchy and I loved the message (Nerds are sexy. Hey, I have a tee-shirt that says that.) Honestly, though, I would’ve loved if it was a little more… inappropriate? I don’t know, I get that sometimes that’s awkward to perform, but when it’s done right, it’s extremely effective and hilarious to listen to. It caters to the audience. The costumes were perfect, though. Celeste’s glasses, with the little bow? Adorbs. It really fit into the academic-nerd theme that they went for.

“Nerds are King” was awesome in a different way- I can imagine myself listening to it before going to my final exams to pump myself up. (Which I totally will, if I can buy the song.) The costumes… they weren’t terrible, but they weren’t great, either. They just seemed generically hip-hop- minus Danielle’s tail, that was a good addition. And the lyrics cracked me up so many times! (“This is Fortune 500, bitch, now I’m your boss!” Effing awesome.) There were a ton of references, so many that it took me two or three views to catch them all. (Pun completely intended.)

And now… all bets are off. The teams are disbanded. The flags have fallen. (Although I don’t see why that’s such a huge shock to all the contestants- isn’t that pretty par for the course in these shows?) I can’t wait to see the gloves come off a little.

‘Cause you know only one Nerd is the true King.

Love,

The Femme Fatale Farmgirl

Mid-Season Nerd Stats

*sigh* I love King of the Nerds. You guys probably know this from my other two posts about it, but I’m going to keep talking about it until the season’s over. EVERY FRIDAY. Yeah, it’s happening.

So, first on the table- what I thought of last night’s episode. It was good- not for the Nerd-War, but for the interactions within Nerdvana. I’m glad to see {*spoiler*} gone- as the episodes went on, I stopped feeling bad for her and started feeling like smacking her in the face. I’m looking forward to seeing Team Blu… Team Blex… Team Bulatr… Team Formerly-Known-As-Blue act as a more cohesive group- I feel like that will be way better to watch (and better for them) than dragging around someone who acts like she’s the best nerd around, but refuses to actually back it up with studying or winning by anything other than luck, not to mention being generally pissy and disloyal to her team.

And Team Orange… I’m glad the drama’s over- and in an entertaining way, too! (I’ll get to that more a little further down.) I do understand both Joshua and Danielle’s positions from their argument- Joshua shouldn’t have fudged the truth to her, but she shouldn’t have taken it so hard that he did. But I think their reconciliation shows how close The Servants of the Forsaken Orb actually are- plus Joshua and Ivan’s conversation outside. They really are friends… I think that’s good.

So, we’re four episodes into King of the Nerds… which means we’re halfway through the season. Which means I’m doing another Nerd Stats! Woo-hoo! My view of some of the contestants has changed a little bit from my preliminary assessment, so I figured I should.

But the hard part is… I don’t really know how to rank them anymore. I don’t really know who my favorite is- I like all of them for different reasons. I can’t even begin to guess who’s going to win. And from pretty much this episode on, I think I’ve going to be sad no matter who gets sent home. But I’m going to try my best- I really will- and although this will be biased on how much I like the person, I’ll TRY to keep it to a minor factor.

7. Virgil– Alright, I still think this guy’s a dick, and I wouldn’t want to be stuck in a house with him, or even really be stuck next to him at a dinner party… but he’s maybe less of a dick than I initially thought. MAYBE. I don’t know yet. I think he genuinely cares about Celeste and Genevieve, even if he cares about himself more. So I guess you could say I will be kind of sad when he goes. A little. He’s still my least favorite, though- don’t get me wrong.

6. Celeste- I felt so bad for her during the debate- I’ve never had a problem with public speaking but I know a lot of people have that fear… and I just wanted to hug her. She seemed so scared. But I feel like her prime time has come and gone with the gaming episode over… I feel like Virgil and Genevieve might send her out next time they have to send someone. She’ll be missed, though.

5. Moogega- From Team Blue’s perspective, I think she’s next on the chopping block- she’s got a lot of the same skill set that got Brandon sent home, and I feel like she might go next. I love her so much- I would love love LOVE to be real-life friends with this girl- but I can’t say I think she’s safe. It pains me to put her this low, but… I don’t know. I feel like she’s in trouble. I hope I’m wrong, though.

4. Genevieve- Alright, I underestimated her a little. She’s a good leader, she demonstrates an awful lot of dedication to winning the Nerd-Off (more than I can say of someone ELSE.) and her team does love her, so that might keep her safe from their votes. But she’s definitely a target from Team SFO… and they’ll be gunning for her. She’d better hope for a couple wins on her team before it gets ’round to SFO’s choice again.

These next three… I think it’ll come down to these Nerds for the crown. WHICH WOULD BE FREAKING SWEET. So, this is not in order. Like I said before, I really have no idea who’s going to win. This just who I think will make it, in no particular order.

3. Danielle– Alright, I misjudged this girl, big time. And I apologize. She’s as much a nerd as the rest of them- I’m glad she let that come through. I think she’s a good asset to Team SFO, although maybe not the best (she is fairly limited in some areas, but no more than any others.) She moved up my list. Aaaannnd then fell a little when she freaked out at Joshua after he tried to extend an olive branch. But then rose again when she won her debate soundly, told Joshua off while drunk (one of the most relatable moments I’ve ever seen… #white-girl-wasted… It’s a thing, guys.) then slapped him in the face- and then forgave him. (BUT for those of you who still think he deserves punishment, here’s a link to a video of him getting his chest waxed. No, I’m not kidding. Just hit the replay button until you think he’s suffered enough.)

2. Joshua- Okay, last time I was biased- this time I’m not. (Much.) I think Joshua plays to the cameras, which is good for the show (which, let’s not pretend, is something they look for), and I think he knows now not to mess with Danielle, so hopefully, he won’t do anything stupid in the future. I don’t think the other team is gunning for him primarily- so he’ll probably stay longer. (In fact, if the other team doesn’t know that he and Danielle made up, they might want both of them to stay. Hmm.) Anyway- this guy is clever, and he’s not shy about doing what’s best for the team and himself.

1. Ivan- God, I love Ivan. I don’t think a single person in Nerdvana dislikes him! I don’t think a single audience member dislikes him! If he goes, I’m going to be bawl my eyes. He’s just so… nerdy. And honest, with his team and with himself. He’s a great leader- he knows when to delegate, when to step forward, when to intervene and when to let things run their course. Unfortunately, that might make him a target, but I think he’s a strong enough competitior to take out whoever he’s competing against. Ivan is a truly good person, and I can’t imagine him not getting to at least the last couple episodes- if he wins, I will squeal like a schoolgirl on caffeine.

Ah… nerdgasm complete.

Love,

The Femme Fatale Farmgirl

Hey, look! It’s questions for you guys to answer!

Who do you like in King of the Nerds? How did you like this last episode? Do you think Danielle should’ve helped wax Joshua’s chest in vengeance? Who has your vote of confidence? Who would you like to see as a judge?
